Dear Jim and Board of Directors,
Thank you for your commitment to ensuring that the children of Grey and Bruce counties have the opportunity to participate in YMCA programs and reach their full potential. Your donation of $5,000.00 enables the Family Y to remain financially accessible to everyone.
Donations to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign help to subsidize the cost of membership for children and families in need. Currently, of our 1,3000 child and youth members (aged 0-17), 18% are subsidized through our financial assistance program.
The below comments are a testament to the impact your gift will have. Eight children were asked what they liked most about coming to the Family Y. This is what they had to say:
“I have made a lot of new friends at the Y, one new friend that I thought I hated at school but now is my good friend.”
“Made new friends with the athletes that particiapte in Special Olympics, I help a new friend in the change room zip up her back pack all the time.”
“I used to be a couh potato and never liked to try anything new. My mom made me join the Y and now I go to Kids Club and I just joined the swim team, doing stuff is cool now.”
“This place is awesome, all kids should come here.”“Awesome leaders. I hope someday I can work at the Y.”
“My whole family joined the Y because we are all over weight and now we all come to the Y every day. This makes me happy because I want my mom and dad to be healthy and live a long, long time.”
“I had no idea it was so important to exercise and stay healthy.”
“My family and I are new to Owen Sound, and we joined the Y right away. My mom was able to get help paying for our memberships. I started in the Teen Weigh Training Club and my sister is in swim lessons and Kids Club. The Family Y is awesome!”
These honest comments provide a snap shot of the positive impact that participating at the Family Y can have. To these kids, the Y is where they help others, meet friends and be healthy. It is where they feel like they belong and are accepted.
The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign helps to ensure that everyone has the opprotunity to particiapte. Thank hyou for being a part of that.
